2023 Salazar Awards Evening

Troy McNamara, guest speaker for Salazar Awards 2023

The Salazar Award is presented annually by DesCan Vancouver and founding sponsor Metropolitan Fine Printers to talented and inspiring DesCan student members currently enrolled in design programs in BC.

Established in 1985 by DesCan Vancouver (formerly GDC BC), the award was created in honour of Enrique Salazar. Mr. Salazar was one of the founding members of GDC BC and served as its national representative for two years. He was a partner in Salazar Graphics, and taught graphic design at Capilano College until his death in June of 1985.

DesCan Vancouver & MET Printers will be awarding students in four categories: Branding, Print, Interactive/UX/UI, and Motion. Supported by MET Printers, $500 is awarded to the top student in each category.

Guest speaker for the evening will be Troy McNamara, Creative Director and Hype Man at Creative Others

About Troy:
I am a 36-year-old neurodiverse Irish immigrant.

I thrive by surrounding myself with individuals who are passionate about their goals and ideas. My background in Architecture, Design, and Marketing, as well as my experience as an International Sailing Coach for the past decade, has provided me with numerous opportunities to collaborate with many inspiring groups and individuals.

Throughout these experiences, I have discovered that I am most fulfilled when immersed in an environment that upholds the values of Community, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication hence why I founded Creative Others Collective Inc built on the foundation of those very values and practised every day in our studio both internally and externally with our clients.

My greatest satisfaction comes from helping teams and individuals surpass their own expectations in whatever their chosen path is. I’ll never get tired of hearing “I can’t believe we did that!”
