Salazar Awards

Salazar Award Enrique Salazar

The Salazar Awards are presented annually by DesCan Vancouver and founding sponsor Metropolitan Fine Printers to talented and inspiring student members currently enrolled in design programs in BC.

Established in 1985 by the BC Chapter of The Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC), the award was created in honour of Enrique Salazar. Mr. Salazar was one of the founding members of the BC Chapter and its national representative for two years. He was a partner in Salazar Graphics, and taught graphic design at Capilano College until his death in June of 1985.

The Award

A cash prize of $500 along with a DesCan Salazar Certificate will be awarded to one student from each category. Winners and Honourable Mentions will be recognized at the Salazar Awards Evening and will also be featured in DesCan communications.

Judging

A judging committee comprised of DesCan professionals will be reviewing and selecting the winners and honourable mentions. Judging will be based on the overall quality of the final design and the quality and clarity of the associated design rationale.

Submission Guidelines:

Download the entry templates (InDesign and/or Figma) and write your criteria and rationale for your project, along with high-rez images (up to 5 pages). Save as a print-ready PDF. The upload link will be posted in the coming weeks, well in advance of the entry deadline. Entrants must be a Student Member of DesCan.
