The $500 Marc Brisbourne scholarship—supported by the Edmonton DesCan Chapter, the DesCan Foundation, and other donors—is awarded annually to a student entering the third or fourth year of an undergraduate design communication program (e.g., BDes) or the second year of a graduate design communication program (e.g., MDes) in Alberta.
This scholarship was created in honour of Marc Brisbourne, MDes (University of Alberta) who passed away in 2013. Marc was an Assistant Professor and Chair of the Design Program at MacEwan University. He was passionate about research, education, and the future of design.
Award Criteria:
- Applicant must be entering the third or fourth year of an undergraduate design communications program (e.g., BDes) or the second year of a graduate design communication program (e.g., MDes) in Alberta.
- The applicant must be a DesCan member in good standing. Become a DesCan member.
- The applicant has not previously been awarded this scholarship
Submission in one PDF and must include:
- One design project demonstrating design research through communication design, in high-resolution PDF format, with supporting research
- Description and rationale for the submitted design project with a focus on design research (500 words maximum)
- Current college/university transcript (unofficial transcripts accepted)
- Letter of recommendation from an educator/instructor (on institutional letterhead)
