David graduated from Emily Carr College of Art & Design (now Emily Carr University) in 1988 and immediately founded Ion. With over four decades of leadership at one of Canada’s prominent branding firms, David possesses a depth of experience and perspective in branding and design that few can rival. He approaches his clients and projects with a personal touch, emphasizing a hands-on approach to ensure successful outcomes. David’s knack for developing strategies and tactics are appreciated by clients, and coupled with his creative direction, he consistently yields solutions that exceed expectations. David’s branding achievements include numerous citations and awards in Canadian and international publications. He shares his expertise through lectures to various audiences on branding and design practices across Canada. Recognized for his contributions, David was named among the ‘Top 40 Under 40’ by Business in Vancouver. His lifetime career achievement was honored with the Emily Award from Emily Carr University. David’s commitment to community extends to his involvement with the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (now Design Professionals of Canada), where he served as National President from 1998 to 2000. He was awarded fellowship in the Society for his significant contributions to Canadian design and continues to support the profession through mentorship and contributions to the DesCan Foundation. David and his wife Kaoru, have two businesses – Ion, and more recently have incorporated Riding the Pine Homeware. A design forward craft company that produces Cabincore Canadiana textiles, wood, and paper products for the home, active and lovers of art and craft.
