This is your chance to serve the Banff community by bringing to life projects, programs, behaviour shifts and opportunities through a combination of visual design imagery and compelling words. You will provide content to motivate, inspire and inform a community of almost 9,000 residents and over 4 million annual visitors. Your design skills will be an integral part of our Communications and Marketing team committed to “Taking Care of Banff” through strategic initiatives, and support to 100 programs and services in 70 service area clients.

Long Description

As a municipal government, the work demands attention to accuracy, fiscal responsibility, and involves a high level of scrutiny of our work. You will be called upon to be the lead designer for a variety of campaigns with a wide diversity of topics such as public safety, transportation and parking information, recreation programs, housing information, public engagement promotion, environmental protection, emergency preparedness, budget and tax processes, and visitor information. As the in-house graphic designer and advertising coordinator, you will develop ways to grab attention and deliver important information through imagery, digital and print campaigns, while coordinating weekly newspaper advertising for the Town’s various programs. You will help make a difference in the community serving the people who live in and visit Canada’s first national park, a World UNESCO Heritage Site.

You are recognized for your talent and skill in design, creativity and imagination that connect with the target audiences. Your attention to detail, organizational prowess, and project management acumen are easy to demonstrate. You can maintain the organization’s graphics systems with exceptional documentation. You take time to understand challenges, consider diverse perspectives and provide solutions to meet clear goals. You are an independent worker, who knows when to rally the collaboration and consultation of the team and your clients to deliver exceptional products that are on time, on budget and on strategy. You can work in a high-pressure environment with rapid deadlines, high workload and evolving priorities.

You must have completed a post-secondary certification or degree program in Graphic Design, Information Design, Communications Design or similar program. You demonstrate experience in design and marketing production, across all communications formats. You are fluent in all aspects of Adobe Creative Suite and a Microsoft Office work environment. You can demonstrate experience addressing challenges with excellent marketing and design solutions and can clearly articulate how your ideas and strategies advance objectives in a compelling fashion.

We offer a fast-paced, creative team environment based in downtown Banff, with wilderness and active pursuits just outside the door. We work hard so we have time to play in this special place in the Rocky Mountains. We look forward to providing you with opportunities to grow as you are exposed to diverse perspectives and skills enhancement that will serve you in your career as a graphic designer.

The position is a permanent role, working 35 hours per week, with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience, ranging from approximately $56,000 to $65,000 per year. This position is based in Banff, with the potential to work remotely one or two days a week. Workdays are mainly Monday to Friday, with some evening and weekend work.

Working safely is a condition of employment at the Town of Banff.  As part of our internal responsibility system, all employees are accountable for adhering to Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Town of Banff safety protocols. The Town of Banff’s safety culture philosophy is one of continuous improvement, so we look forward to your suggestions to make our workplace even safer.

For your safety and the safety of others, you will be required to demonstrate (in writing from a Health Services authorized site) that you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (2 doses) as of your hire date.
