Position: Secure Document Designer
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Location: Ottawa, ON
Work Model: Hybrid

Position Summary

As a Secure Document Designer in our Design Department, you will leverage your creative abilities and artistic capabilities to prepare conceptual designs and develop and execute final designs with security line work, illustrations and digital files for the production of a wide range of security documents (e.g. Banknotes, Passports, Driver Licence and Identification (DL/ID) cards, etc.). We are looking for someone with exceptional creative ability with design, composition and illustration skills.

Responsibilities

Conceptual Design & Innovation:

Creation of conceptual models for security products that can include Banknotes, Secure Travel Documents (Passports), Identity Documents, Certificates and Cards
Contribute to ongoing development of new security feature integration through novel design applications
Conduct research, prepare images and artwork for completed concept designs, create final artwork files for production
Illustration & Artwork Preparation:

Prepare illustrations and drawings for concept designs
Prepare and present design models or proofs for customer presentation
Production Integration & Compliance:

Review conceptual designs with production staff and implement recommendations for production compliance
Create and develop secure linework for production
Participate, as required, in the approval process during press proof trials and initial production runs to achieve customer sign-off
System & File Management:

Create operational and comprehensive file management for all assigned projects
Client & Stakeholder Collaboration:

Interface with Corporate sales management staff and with customers (as required), to understand design requirements and communicate design rationale for all work
Prepare comprehensive design presentations to support Design/Marketing initiatives
Qualifications

Education and Knowledge

Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Arts/Design/etc. or an equivalent combination of education and additional relevant work experience
Knowledge of the following:
Graphic design principles
Secure document design (security features, security line work, etc.)
Integration of Design elements with all applicable features
Security Print production processes and requirements
Knowledge of security features, security printing, security line work and associated processes;
Proficiency in the following:
Specialized security design software (JURA JSP or Giori “One”)
Adobe suite of products (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.)
Above average design, composition, illustration and drawing skills are required with ability to render portraits and subject matter in high detail with exceptional accuracy;
Experience

1+ year of experience in composition, design and integration for security documents
